The Rookery

The Rookery is home to 36 adults with learning disabilities. Some have very complex needs and we provide a high level of staff care and support. Some have sensory impairments that require specialist communication skills, while those on the autistic spectrum thrive on routine. Many of our residents have lived here since it opened in 1978.

The home is set in approximately 22 acres of gardens, paddocks and woodland. Next door is the Barrington Farm Day Centre with an art studio, café, gym and rare breeds farm.

The main accommodation is a traditional 18th century Manor House, with ground-floor and first-floor bedrooms, all wheelchair accessible. There are 14 single bedrooms, many with en-suite facilities, and two twin rooms.

There are also converted stable buildings, cottages and purpose built bungalows in the grounds, offering 14 en-suite ground floor single rooms with open plan lounge and kitchens. These homes are designed for up to 3 people to live in a “family” environment with full support and care.

Everyone has the privacy of their own room and the freedom of com munal space, indoors and outside. Accommodation meets the National Care Standard Regulations 2008 and rooms are furnished and decorated to a high standard.

The Registered Manager is Nanette Causton, who holds NVQ 4 Leadership & Management for Care Services and NVQ 4 Health & Social Care – Adults.
